EPA to Cut Mercury, Other Toxic Emissions from Boilers, Solid Waste Incinerators

The EPA just sent this out. We need to ask why the EPA does not monitor or regulate how much Mercury is coming out of Erie Coke. Two new plants in their emissions applications plan to release over 500, and over 700 pounds of Mercury a year, respectively. The one over 700 pounds is slated for Toledo, Ohio. This will end up in Lake Erie. If you try searching the EPA for emissions from Erie Coke Corp. or Tonawanda Coke, both owned by JD Crane, you will not find any Mercury listed. Why Not?

Now that the EPA is saying they are going to go after Boilers and Waste Incinerators, are they going to do anything with these Coke Plants?

Ask your political leaders to tell us why the EPA and PA DEP is not listing the amount of Mercury being emitted from these Coke Plants.

How many fish are we allowed to eat out of Lake Erie? Where is the Mercury that affects the fish coming from? The Barber Center is located right next to Erie Coke. It is a leading site for kids with autism. How many of the kids being treated are there because of the emissions from Erie Coke?

JD Crane, when fined over 6 million dollars 2 years ago, said in an Erie Times interview that he donates to the Barber Center. How much does he contribute? Have you ever read anything from the Barber Center about the emissions from Erie Coke? I guess they would rather have a steady stream of sick kids to treat. Have they ever looked at what was causing the kids' problems?

I want to know how many pounds of Mercury are coming from Erie Coke. Fishermen, do you know that one teaspoon of Mercury is enough to contaminate a 20 acre lake. How many teaspoons are in a pound? Why don't we know how much Erie Coke is releasing? Who should be telling us?
