PA DEP Accused of Faking Air Emission Testing

This is a link to the USA Today story where the PA DEP is accused of faking air emission testing. At one site in PA, a major polluting plant sat idle. In Erie, at Wayne School, the DEP found no dangerous emission levels. The reason is that the Coke Plant was 50% shut down during the testing.

The PA DEP knew that the Coke plant was not operating normally. In the press release, the DEP assured the Erie School District that the air around Wayne School was completely within allowable ranges, and that the excess PAHs and other emissions that USA Today found weren't what the DEP saw.

In both cases, the PA DEP did a bad job of trying to cover up the bad air quality by having the worst emitting companies shut down.

The DEP should be charged with a criminal cover up. How much was spent by the DEP to perpetrate this scam?

What did it cost tax payers to have DEP people come to Erie and the other PA site, set up the monitoring equipment, and then to spend time to evaluate, publish, and announce the results? They then took the time to go to the media to tell the Erie School District and parents that they didn't have any worries about their kids' health because of what they are breathing when they go to school.... Should PA taxpayers fire these public government workers who are lying to us instead of protecting us and our environment in Pennsylvania?
