Who is Being Paid Off?

It makes one wonder who is getting paid off to keep quiet or to not test appropriately in Erie. We need honest, professional emissions testers here - people appointed by someone other than Crane himself and who will perform unannounced testing. I find it ludicrous that Crane was allowed to appoint the company doing the testing at his own plant and then was forewarned before they came to test. I can't believe the DEP fell for that one. Again, who suffers from such nonsense? . . . The citizens of Erie, Erie County and surrounding areas.

in health,

Subject: Crane Gets Another Violation, NY Coke Plant

Everyone,

Erie Coke's sister plant [in Buffalo] has collected another violation, this time for discharging cyanide into the town's sewer system. Here in Erie, there is a water discharge into the lake at the foot of East Avenue. The DEP has said that both they and the Erie County Health Department monitor the discharge. When asked, Andy Glass said that the Health Department wasn't testing the water emissions. I have found no listing by the PA DEP, or the EPA for any water discharges from Erie Coke.

When the plant and manager were charged in Tonawanda a couple of weeks ago, one of the charges was about them dumping benzene and mercury at the NY site. Where did the mercury come from? There is no listing of any mercury emissions at either plant, by the EPA, or here the PA DEP.

Erie Coke emissions are being tested by a company that they chose. Think that they are testing for mercury? The PA DEP doesn't want us to find out if any mercury is being emitted.

Dennis
