PA DEP Could Use a Good Housecleaning

It sure sounds like the PA DEP could use a good housecleaning . . . I think there are too many people collecting hefty salaries and cushy benefits for doing what? If they have been doing something, we sure haven't seen it in Erie, PA. The DEP has failed the citizens of Erie miserably over the past decades. They should be held accountable. I believe our tax dollars could be put to better use. One person can do nothing just as well as 60-80.

They should review their mission statement as noted on their website: "About DEP - Mission Statement:
"The Department of Environmental Protection’s mission is to protect Pennsylvania’s air, land and water from pollution and to provide for the health and safety of its citizens through a cleaner environment. We will work as partners with individuals, organizations, governments
and businesses to prevent pollution and restore our natural resources."

Isn't it comforting to know that if you have money in this town (e.g., J. D. Crane), you will be held above the law? I don't understand why he is permitted to pump known carcinogens into our air and water for the next three years while he supposedly updates his ovens. Hopefully, the federal government will come to our rescue.

respectfully,
Barb Slomski
